Q: How long can I use my Thai herbal compress for?

A: Frequency, intensity and duration will be different for each user and can change each time it's used so there is no common answer to this question.

If steamed, the Thai herbal compress can be used until the compress cloth and handle start to wear. Once this happens and it is hard to apply the ball as a compress, you could open the compress and repack the herbs into a poultice. Click on how to make a home made poultice to follow 10 steps on how to reuse the herbs from your compress.

The herbs inside the compress are completely organic and will continue to be effective as long as their scent is still aromatic. If the compress gets wet and does not dry completely or is stored when warm, bacteria may build up inside and cause the herbs to go bad. At this time it is recommened to replace the entire compress for a fresh one. When you feel it's time to reorder see our online store to select from a variety of body and facial compress balls.

Q. Can the body compress help reduce cellulite?

A. Cellulite is the protrusion of fatty deposits through the connective tissue that lays between the skin and muscle fibers. If the connective tissue is loose, the fatty deposits create bumps through the tissue giving the appearance of lumpy skin. Most cellulite treatments claim to break up the fatty depoists, tighten the skin or dehydrate the skin creating a smooth appearance. None of these types of treatments have been proven to work completely but some have notice a slight reduction of dimples with short term results.

The herbs offered in the body compress allow for toning and detoxification of the superficial fibers of the skin and surrounding tissues. This may help diminish the look and apperance of cellulite as the toning effect may smooth the skin making it appear less lumpy. The natural detoxification properties of the herbs may be beneficial at a cellular level but will only minimally change the texture of the skin. Therefore, the herbal body compress will provide the same results as most lotions and creams on the market.

Q. How long will the heat in the compress last?

A. The compress will maintain it's heat for up to 10 minutes depending on how receptive you or your client are to the heat. Some bodies will draw the heat out faster than others. If you find you run out of heat too quickly, try adding in other massage techniques to the heated body area while the compress is re-heating. If you are treating yourself, it is good to stretch the muscle or area you are treating before re-applying the heat. This will help clear out toxin build up faster.

If you are using it in a massage or spa treatment it is good to have 2 compresses steaming so you you can use one while the other is steaming. This is typical for use in Thai massage and some spa treatments but can be costly as the used ball is not recommened for use on other clients. Some therapists will give the used compress to their client after the treatment which is great for the client but not so great for the therapist as it may increase the costs for the treatment. To avoid using 2 compresses per treatment, you can treat one body part at a time and steam the compress ball after treating that one area. While the ball is steaming, apply massage techniques or spa product on area previously treated with compress.
